This work was heavily inspired by Shepard Fairey’s artwork named “Hope.” The figure looking up is Dr. Anthony Fauci, America’s most renowned disease control expert, giving U.S. citizens a spark of hope when President Trump is creating chaos and providing misinformation. The original image I based this artwork on was taken in a coronavirus response meeting between President Trump and Louisiana Governor John Bel Eduard at the White House—it captured the perfect angle of Dr. Fauci glancing upwards. I chose to reproduce this image because the upward glance, in a sense, symbolizes foresight and hope, which corresponded with the theme I wanted to convey.
